Anyway, without further adeu, here's Drumheller Madness (and here's to hoping that it works):

Happenings of (not) Joel Shapiro, a University of Washington student living in Seattle, Washington.
So I just thought of this as I was shooting him an email, but I wanted to shout out to my dad real quick (sorry Mom, you're going to have to trudge through this one).
Today I (Dad) bought my plane tickets for Europe. I had a great talk with Chris Guillebeau, un ami de mon cours de francais pendant ma premiere an a l'universite de washington. He is a seasoned traveler and has a great blog going on with a cool project (shameless plug: http://chrisguillebeau.com/3x5/). Check it out, it's worth a read, and stay updated with it if you'd like, he's got some cool stuff coming up.
Anyway, the trip is as follows:
July 24th I leave Seattle
July 25th I arrive in London
-Three hours later I arrive in Stockholm.
July 29th I arrive back in London
August 1st I arrive in Paris (for the schoolin')
I don't remember the dates exactly, but Dad has cashed in his airline miles to visit me for I believe two weeks in Paris, he is still trying to shuffle the dates maybe, we'll see what ends up happening there, but hopefully we'll hit up le sud (southern) France and go to the beaches and such. Who knows, right?
September 2nd I return a les etats unis (USAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) safe and sound.
Whlie in Paris I will be in classes from 9-5, four days a week, and plan to spend my weekends checking out other cities in Paris, or taking commuter jets to other countries (<$50 each way to Amsterdam, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, etc.), and do other fun stuff. You saw the bold there, right?
fun (italics on that one too, it's for emphasis).
Anyway, Dad has been very, very supportive of my europe trip plans, and even though my financial aid (hopefully) will cover the balance of the trip, when it has come to adventures like this (he also offered to help me with some boots/gloves for my moto-venture), he is usually very supportive, and even if he doesn't think it' s a good idea, or thinks that I might be digging myself a hole, he never tries to stop me, and tries to wear a smile throughout. Thanks Dad, I really appreciate your help in everything, I'll order you a G&T for old-times sake when you land.
While Dad is helping me out with the safety stuff on the moto-venture, I think that it is totally fair to throw in that my Mom is loaning me a sleeping bag and shelter on my trip, and I appreciate that quite a bit as well.
Pretty much I just want to thank the family for helping me out with all of my endeavors. I never thought that I'd be in a situation where I'd have to stop for shelter on my motorbike, or need airfare help au Paris, but you all are there for me whenever I need you. Mad Props.
In your honor, here are some pictures that I have of you that perhaps you've forgotten about:
'Thanks guys,

So I have little terribly exciting to report, I have been trying to keep my posts about stuff pertaining to my original focus (mostly events, DV and photo-driven), and given just how hectic life is, I'm unable to report on things in a timely manner. That being said, here's a short video (read: not really edited) of our happenings this past weekend (including of course, why I don't interview Shiree often):
I meant to put up this video with the last post (if you're using gmail or the like you may not see the video, hit up the site directly notjoelshapiro.blogspot.com) :
Basically this is just a video of Olson trying to scew my GPS data, which you can't really see yet, but if you watch the actual tracking from my GPS-dealy, there is a part where it goes around in circles outside of Mary Gates hall. That is what you are watching now (perhaps past/future-tense)
So for the upcoming motoventure/europe trip I have been planning on doing a lot of geotagging, so here is the first attempt at sharing the trip. On my computer I can see the entire route that I took, and I might be able to upload it as a Google Earth file, but I'm not sure yet. Anyways, here is the past few days, with the GPS tags (not entirely acurate) for where I was when the picture was taken.

Enjoi.
So I dont' have a lot to report on really, so this'll be a short guy.
The other day i was looking for a tripod to put on my motorbike so I can do some video whilst riding about on my upcoming trip, so I did some googl'ing. I found a cheap mini-tripod ($4.99 plus shipping) and it just showed up today. This thing is so incredibly small, i can't believe it. Take a gander:
So now the goal is to affix the tripod to my motorbike when I get it back, but until then, I'll just play with it, maybe see what kinds of cool shots I can get with it. I'm sure the X of you watching this will see it before anyone else. w00t.
All that I've got left is a video fo Corey Allen making a fool of himself. Don't ask the condition he was in when this went down, I just couldn't resist putting it together. Just a quick upload on those grounds, and if you're getting this in your email, hit up the actual site to see it.
So I was going to do a real post, but I am so mad right now, I am just going to do this instead. How did some morons go from this (go to the site people, this probably won't show up in your email):
to this:
I am going to kill some emo-punk idiots who tried to ruin freedom. Thank god no one remembers what they tried to do to this glorious song.
....'merica.....
So this is my first real vblog (or vlog ) post! I didn't spend much time editing this, but as I mentioned in the last post, I spent a LONG time transcoding it. This is kind of a summary of the last few days, expect one more post with the Cheese Fair, and some other stuff that I couldn't cram into this first video. It's rough, yeah, but it was fun. As videos in the past haven't gotten into people's inboxes, I suggest coming to the site ( notjoelshapiro.blogspot.com ) to see what's going on in Seattle these days.
So remember, everyone, that this blog was originally intended for while I am in Europe/on my road trip, so I have started doing the whole video thang. Unfortunately, Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 won't accept .mp4 files, which my camera records in. Thusly I have started to transcode my files, and unfortunately, I have now spent the majority of my day transcoding files only to learn that rendering them is insane. Never again will I use .wmv to work with in Premiere unless I have to. I know that you all care a lot about that, so while I am still working on the video for today that summerizes the last few days (not including the Cheese Fair that I am going to this afternoon), here are some pictures that I've taken along the way.
So all of you that get my posts via email....you don't (unless you're Dad, aparently) get the videos. Hit up the page manually ( http://notjoelshapiro.blogspot.com ) to see them, as they usually are the most important part of my post. I'll start tagging the posts in the subject or first line for if you should hit up the page directly, since this is kinda sucky.
P.S. This post has a video attached to it. It may or may not correlate exactly to this new fancy internets thing, but I watched a few seconds of it, looked pretty interesting.
-Joel
P.P.S. I found this cool video while I was trying to find that last video, it's about dancing. (I can't embed it, so you'll have to click on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ghtvYTdtJA
If you woke up yesterday and told yourself "Oh man, Tutti Frutti Summer Love (pictured at the bottom) is the best thing ever. Never has there been a greater video, I devote my life to you, Gunther" You would have been likely one of the people that I know is reading this blog, but even more important than that, you would as of today be incorrect.
The title of this video is "Finally, a good use for multi-touch," and the guys that put it up are right. I don't think that I need to go into much explanation about this post, just another shining example of the good-ole' days being recreated on a (likely) 60+ inch multitouch LCD panel (retail cost over $20,000).
Props where props due, right? (And here's Gunther's Tutti Frutti Summer Love to put in perspective the evolution of awesome here.)

So normally I wouldn't make a post about Goatse, but what can I say, I've been inspired. Goatsee is NSFW, let's get that out of the way (for those of you (mommy and daddy) who may not know the term, NSFW means "Not Safe For Work.") Do not Google it if you have faith in humanity, it will pain your soul. Instead, here is a wikipedia link, learn about Goatse the same way that everyone should: user-moderated encyclopedia entries
Deeper than just a post about Goatse, I guess viral marketing is on my mind. The idea that people are now being paid to leak company information and make it look like it was actually leaked. It's like the people that hire theives to break into their house, steal all their stuff, but instead of giving it back at the end of the episode, they just....well, that comparison sure did fall apart quickly.
It's weird. dig?
Tonight was interesting, nothing too big happened, but whatevs, you can't always be a rockstar, can you? Here's a video to exit with, sorry this one didn't have as much Fogerty as you might have expected after yesterday's. :(
-JShap out
So I am procrastinating through an essay that is due far too soon and that I've done far too little on and the great Creedence Clearwater Revival started roaring through mah Zune.
Scot Rastelli got me (more) into CCR this summer, as he has a deep passion for John Fogerty, and the man was oft a subject of our daily walks to class. As much as I would love to give Un Te all the credit for my CCR obsession, I can't say that The Dude didn't play an equally large part (illustrated in the scene below), nor did my natural draw to muzak of that time period.

So Garrett spent the last few days with us, and a glorious last few days it was. He's a friend of Ryan and Sam's from Ferndale (who has hopes of transferring into UW next year). Last night he slept on the phone until about 4 in the morning.
He is truly a man's man.
This track goes out to you, Garrett.

New bag!
So I just grabbed this here new bag at an army surplus. I needed more storage for the upcoming moto trip, and so long as it does, in fact, not:
a) burn down, or
b) fall off, it looks like it'll work pretty well.
w00t.
I hope that was as good for you as it was for me.
-JShap
So this is my first post. Things are kinda crazy right now and there are a lot of people around, so I don't have a lot to report as it stands (had I a camera hooked up I'd link up some pictures).
I guess as I'm out of stuff to say right now I'll finishout with this:
Passing on a random number from your phonebook to someone who needs someone to drunk dial can be wildly entertaining and painful at the same time.
